The New Zealand team of 4 secondary school students has recently competed at the International Geography Olympiad in Tver, Russia.
The team consisted of four students, Alysha Johnson, Avondale College, Luke Dixon, Napier Boys High School, Rengen Parlane, Westlake Boys High School and Oxana Repina, Rutherford College.
Two of the four students achieved considerable success at this event, Rengen Parlane from Westlake Boys High School won a Silver Medal and Oxana Repina from Rutherford College achieved a Gold medal.
Oxana attained the second highest overall score of all participants (approximately 160 students from over 40 countries around the world) and was the only girl to receive a Gold Medal.
This is an immense achievement and the first gold that New Zealand has gained at an IGeo competition.
